Whitefly Control
Whiteflies can become a serious problem in the garden. They can come in large numbers and reproduce quickly and damage your plants with their young.
There are two common types of whiteflies. There are citrus whiteflies and greenhouse whiteflies. Citrus whiteflies eat almost anything and not just citrus plants. Greenhouse whiteflies generally are found in greenhouses and are dormant most of the winter.
When the young develop they will pierce the plants and start feeding on the sap which will kill the leaves and the whole plant.
Besides this the whiteflies also excrete honeydew which will attract other plants like ants.
There are two common methods of controlling a whitefly problem.
Whitefly Traps
Whitefly traps can be place around the garden. This is one of the best ways of preventing whitefly problems. These are glue traps that catch the flies. They will be caught before reproduction occurs which will control the population.
Insecticidal Soap
Insecticidal soaps are for the most part safe and natural. It’s a soapy, oily water that can be sprayed on the garden. This will cover pests preventing them from being able to fly and in many cases preventing them from being able to breathe. It won’t kill all the whiteflies but it will certainly limit their numbers.
