Termite Tenting – Questions And Concerns – How To Prepare For Termite Tenting
Termite tenting is the process where a large tent is erected on the outside of your home. The home is fumigated with poisonous bug spray over the course of a few days and the pests, in this case termites, will die off. There are many questions and concerns about this process on how it can be done safely inside the house.
Before the process happens you prepare for the tenting. This means that all food items are sealed in plastic bags or removed. Anything else in the house that you do not wish to come in contact with the gases are put away or taken from the home.
The first day the tent is erected on the outside of the home and the gases are put into the house. Day two the gases are let out of the tent. A third day is needed to make sure that all of it is out of the home which will be tested by the pest control company. The fumigation process today does not leave residual reside in the house, but some still feel safer wiping everything down and cleaning it just in case.
If you are concerned about the process, you don’t have to do it if for any reason you feel it might be unhealthy. It is a very effective way of treating termites that are in many parts of your home at once so the trade off of doing it is eliminating as many termites as possible and preserving the structure of the home.
One of the drawbacks of tenting is that it won’t effect any termites who are underground on the outside of the home. These termites can get back into the house and continue to damage the property. It’s best that these termites in the soil are treated at the same time to prevent the problem from happening again.
