Snake Pest Control
Very few things are as frightening as finding an agitated snake right in front of you in your home or garden.
Fortunately there are a variety of methods for snake pest control. One concern many people have is that their pest control methods will be safe for their children and pets as well as humane for the snakes which can benefit the environment around them no matter how scary coming in contact with one can be.
Snake traps and repellents are the best methods of accomplishing these goals.
What are some natural snake repellents?
Snakes do not like certain smells. When their tongue senses a smell they don’t like they generally leave the area. Some of these smells would include cedar oil, cinnamon, sulfur, and clove oil.
Many snake control products have one or more combinations of these smells in them in powder form.
Take the powder and make a border around the area you want to get rid of snakes.
Snake Traps
Another option is snake traps. There are humane snake traps that can trap snakes with safe ways of removing them from the trap (i.e. not having to actually touch the snakes with your hands).
These devices work because the snake can get into the trap but can’t quite get out. After the snake is caught, you can set it in a nice shady area for the snake to make it’s way out of it in another location.
Are their any homemade snake repellents I can try?
Try cinnamon at first if it’s just a snake or two that is giving you trouble. You can also make sure to keep your grass short and not have piles of trash and debris in your yard which can attract snakes in the first place.
How about getting rid of garter snakes?
Some of the prevention methods above will help with garter snakes. These are beneficial snakes since they get rid of rats and mice. If you have a garter snake problem, you probably also have a rodent problem as well since that’s what garter snakes eat. Look into some rodent control methods to help with garter snakes.
