Remedies for Cinch Bugs in St Augustine Grass
If you have been water and tending to your lawn and still notice small yellow patches in your St Augustine grass, then you may have cinch bug problem.
The problem with these bugs is that when they find your grass, they literally suck all the life out of it. After done with your grass they leave behind a poison that will continue to kill it which if you want to have a nicer lawn will ruin those hopes.
What you need to do is the tin can test

Take a tin can with BOTH ends of the can opened up so it’s like a tube or cylinder. Take a quart of water and mix with a tablespoon of dish soap in another container. Push the tin can into the ground a few inches over the suspected cinch bug spot on the grass.
Pour this solution over the lawn and see if you can see the bugs come up. You may have to wait about 5 or 10 minutes to see results. If you try this and see nothing, it might be sickness or fungus in the grass instead.
Remedies for cinch bugs.
Use an insecticidal soap on the problem areas of the lawn to help kill these pests.
Another option is to use a product called diatomaceous earth. This will act as an abrasive against the pests which can cut and dehydrate them. This is a very good solution against any yard insect pest.
Use less fertilizer on the lawn as over fertilized lawns tend to have more problems with cinch bugs.
