How To Get Rid Of Ants In The Kitchen
One of the most common places around the home to have an ant problem is in the kitchen. The longer you let the ants stay there the more infested they will become so getting rid of the as soon as possible is best
How to get rid of ants in the kitchen
The first step with most any insect problem is to clean up the counters, floors, sinks, and cupboards. There may be residual food stains or crumbs in these areas that is attracting the ants because they use this as a food supply.
Try and follow the ants or a single ant to see what the path is that they are taking. This may lead you to the holes they are entering the kitchen through.
When you have found their path you have a few options.
Leave a cinnamon barrier. Ants don’t like cinnamon and try to avoid it.
Use food grade diatomaceous earth. This will kill ants and is not poisonous as it’s eaten by animals. It essentially will dehydrate the ant. Follow any directions for safety for the specific brand you may purchase.
Use ant traps. You can even make homemade ones.
Use ant baits. The ants will take these baits back to the colony and spread it around to other ants and hopefully the queen.
Something to consider is that normally during the warmer months of the year ants come inside seeking water. Make sure that your home isn’t a water supply by having leaking pipes or a leaky faucet. Even if the food supply in your home is low, that little bit of water is enough for the ants to stick around compared to the lack of water outdoors in summer months.
