Homemade Raccoon Traps

If you have a pesky raccoon in the yard, there is an easy way to trap the pet. Make sure that you know your local trapping laws and what you have to do when you do trap an animal. Have this planned out before you actually catch the pest.

For this homemade raccoon trap you need a garbage can, a picnic table or something as high as the top of the garbage can, some bait, and a board.

Put the garbage can next to the picnic table and fill it about 1/4th or 1/3rd the way to the top with water. You don’t want this to be to high.

Take a board and put it on the picnic table. Make sure that enough is on the table to hold it up but enough hanging over the garbage can that the board will fall.

Put some bait out on the board. This is normally just food scraps. It’s best to try this during the evening so that other animals don’t find it like birds.

What will happen is that the raccoon will find the food. The raccoon’s weight will cause the board to fall and they will be stuck in the garbage can without a way out because the water will weight them down. Be sure to have the trash can a bit secured else the racoon might tip it over and run off.
