Home remedies for fruit flies – The Fruit Fly Trap
How to make a fruit fly trap
Step 1 – Obtain a bottle with a small opening on the top. It’s best to use something like a 2 liter bottle or even a wine bottle for this purpose. Whatever you use it needs a small opening at the top. This may not work as well as professional fruit fly traps that are specially shaped for catching fruit flies, but it should work well enough.
Step 2 – Take a slice of fruit, banana works the best, and place it into the bottle. You may also want to pour some fruit juice like grape or orange juice on top of this so that the aroma will attract more fruit flies.
Step 3 – Set the bottle with the fruit inside out in your kitchen or wherever you have your fruit fly problem for about a day.
Step 4 – Check the trap after about a day and see how many flies are “trapped”. Regardless of how many, rinse out the bottle and start over for a few more days making sure you are catching fruit flies each day until the problem is more or less solved.
That’s the fruit fly trap home remedy.
Note that a fruit fly can lay about 500 eggs at a time and that’s why you want to make sure you clean out and empty the bottle at least once a day. If not you are giving the fruit flies a place to lay eggs and make it more of a problem. So if you are lazy this process could backfire on you making more of a problem than a solution.
