Get Rid Of Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are quite a bit of a problem because they can carry diseases or can just make your time outdoors become uncomfortable with all the bites.
If you want to get rid of mosquitoes in your yard, there is some clean up that you need to begin with first.
Standing water is a mosquitoes breeding ground. If the lawn is not level, there might be some standing water. Look at your flower pots, bird bath, and random buckets in the yard as these might get rain water in them and not be emptied too often. You have have to get rid of an ornamental fish pond if you want to reduce the mosquitoes in your yard. If you do have something like a rain barrel, there are coverings that can help reduce mosquito breeding.
It’s also a good idea to keep the grass shorter and have less out of control bushes.
DEET is very effective against mosquitoes. Some use this an enjoy the benefits of no mosquitoes. But others are concerned about the long term effects that DEET might have as in health problems.
If you don’t want to use DEET use something like catnip oil or citronella oil. These are based on the plants themselves that are a natural mosquito repellent. This oil is put into commercial mosquito candles that you can burn while out on the porch. There are other plants like rosemary or marigolds that you can grow in the yard that will help be a natural repellent.
If you want to get rid of mosquitoes in a larger area, consider getting a commercial mosquito trap. Many can help reduce the mosquito population in a half acre area which will more than enough for most backyards.
