Fire Ant Bite Treatment
Fire ant bites are pretty painful. I have fond memories of grabbing a hose in the backyard as a kid only to find out that it was covered with fire ants. The bites on my arms were painful for a few weeks as many of them got to me. There are fire ant bite treatments to keep in mind if something like this happens to you.
It’s first best to wash with anti-bacterial soap. Fire ants actually chew away at the skin and insert venom, so your skin is open and exposed to potential infection.
Follow up this washing with something like rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
Even if properly cleaned, most bites tend to swell up a little. These look pimples and look like they could be popped. Don’t do this because it just increases the chance that the venom will go deeper into the skin.
Use some sort of anti-itching agent to deal with the itching if you can’t resist scratching.
One thing to help kids is to put a band aide over the bites.
When you are in an area with fire ants, be very careful about what objects in the yard you pick up without looking as fire ants could be in, on, on under them.
