Buy Beneficial Insects Versus Attracting Beneficial Insects
Beneficial insects are insects in the garden that will naturally take control of pest problems for you. These insects will feed all day on things like aphids, spider mites, whiteflies, and all sorts of other pests that will feed on and destroy the plants you are trying to grow.
The common types of beneficial insects are lady bugs, the green lacewing, praying mantis, and nematodes. There are many more but these tend to be the most common.
Can you buy beneficial insects?
Of course. These insects or their larvae can be purchased and mixed in with the soil in your garden. This population will grow up and continually feed on the pests in the garden. The big concern is that you aren’t using pesticides that will also kill these beneficial bugs. If so, this strategy of buying beneficial insects won’t work out so well.
Attracting beneficial insects is the other strategy.
This involves looking at what pests you have currently in your garden then looking up what beneficial insect will be best to take care of that pest. Once you know this plant plants that attract the beneficial insect. You are setting up the conditions to continually have the good bugs come to the garden and keep the bad bugs away.
